Gumjo doesn't adventure alone. He's got a whole crew of swamp-dwellers, each with their own skills, quirks, and questionable life choices. Here they are — the legends of the bayou.

🦝 Bandit the Raccoon — "The Trickster"

"I didn't STEAL it. I RELOCATED it. Strategically."

Bandit is a fast-talking raccoon with tiny hands that are always reaching for something. He wears a bandit mask (well, he was born with it) and speaks in elaborate schemes. His plans are 50% genius, 50% absolute disaster.

Skills: Lockpicking, distraction, fits in small spaces

Weakness: Cannot resist shiny objects. ANYTHING shiny.

Catchphrase: "Trust me, this'll work."

Wanted for: Borrowing Mama Magnolia's pie (he gave it back... half-eaten)

🦎 Zip the Chameleon — "The Speedster"

"You blinked? That's okay. Most people miss me."

Zip is the fastest creature in the bayou and he knows it. He can change colors at will — which he uses mostly to win at hide-and-seek and to make dramatic entrances. He speaks in rapid-fire bursts and can never sit still.

Skills: Camouflage, speed, recon missions

Weakness: Gets bored in approximately 4 seconds

Catchphrase: "Gogogogogogogo!"

Record: Ran from the Old Cypress to Crawdad Creek and back in under two minutes

🦉 Professor Hoot — "The Brain"

"According to my calculations, we have a 34.7% chance of survival. Shall we proceed?"

Professor Hoot is an ancient barred owl who lives in the tallest tree at Firefly Grove. He has reading glasses (perched on his beak), a collection of scrolls, and opinions about EVERYTHING. He's the one decoding Captain Crawdad's treasure riddle.

Skills: Code-breaking, history, navigation by stars

Weakness: Absolutely useless before sunset. Cannot function in daylight.

Catchphrase: "Actually, that's a common misconception..."

🐢 Old Shell — "The Elder"

"Sit down, young'uns. Let me tell you about the time I raced a hurricane... and won."

Old Shell is a 200-year-old snapping turtle who's seen everything the bayou has to offer. He moves slow, talks slow, but his wisdom is unmatched. He's Gumjo's mentor and the unofficial mayor of the swamp.

Skills: Ancient knowledge, patience, impossibly hard shell

Weakness: Falls asleep mid-sentence (but insists he was just "meditating")

Catchphrase: "Back in my day..."

Knows: Where Captain Crawdad's treasure map was last seen (but keeps "forgetting" the details)

🐸 Ribbit Rose — "The Singer"

🎵 "Oh the bayou moon shines bright tonight, and the crickets sing along..." 🎵

Ribbit Rose is a tree frog with the voice of an angel and the drama of a soap opera star. She believes every situation calls for a musical number. She's also the bayou's best messenger — news travels fast when it's sung at high volume.

Skills: Singing, information network, can jump 20x her body length

Weakness: She WILL stop everything to perform a ballad at the worst possible time

Catchphrase: "This calls for a song!"

Hit single: "Swamp Water Serenade" (certified bayou platinum)

🦀 Clawdia the Crawfish — "The Chef"

"If it's not spicy enough, it's not food. That's just... a suggestion of food."

Clawdia runs the kitchen at Mama Magnolia's restaurant. She's small, fiery, and takes her cooking VERY seriously. She's also Gumjo's cousin (the family tree is complicated). Her crawfish étouffée is legendary.

Skills: Cooking, knife skills (well, claw skills), surprisingly strong grip

Weakness: Gordon Ramsay-level temper in the kitchen

Catchphrase: "Out of my kitchen!"

Secret: She's also a skilled navigator and knows the waterways better than anyone

🌺 Mama Magnolia — "The Healer"

"Honey, sit down. You look like you swam upstream both ways. Let me fix you a plate."

Mama Magnolia is a wise old ibis who runs the bayou's only restaurant, rest stop, and unofficial therapy practice. Every creature in the swamp comes to her for food, advice, and healing. She knows every herb, root, and remedy in the bayou.

Skills: Herbal medicine, cooking, wisdom, giving absolutely devastating advice

Weakness: Will feed you whether you asked or not

Catchphrase: "Eat first, adventure later."

Location: Mama Magnolia's — the pink houseboat near the big willows
